In a 35-page filing, Apple outlines its case against Mac clone maker Psystar, demanding that the company recall every computer running OS X that it’s sold.

Stay cool with the MacBook Air

Jason Snell and other have noticed that Intel’s Santa Rosa chip architecture, used by the MacBook Air, shuts down a core when it gets too hot. The result? Apps for Apple TV: sign me up

Saul Hansell, over at the New York Times Bits blog, takes Microsoft's recent announcement about Xbox LIVE Community Games as a jumping off point to some speculation about Apple TV (and who doesn't like speculation?). Hansell wonders what would happen if Apple were to open up an App Store for the Apple TV, and I have to admit that I think that's a brilliant idea.I've always thought that the Apple TV would greatly benefit from third party plugins (official ones, I mean, not hacks), if not full blown apps. Take, for example, the YouTube functionality. Wouldn't it be cool if you could watch videos from Viddler, Vimeo, or any of the other countless video sharing sites, in addition to those on YouTube? And let's not forget Netflix. Microsoft and Netflix have teamed up to offer the 'Watch it now' library of videos to XBox Live Gold members. Being able to watch those videos from Netflix on my Apple TV would make me one happy panda.Hansell notes that to make apps on the Apple TV viable something has to be done about that horrible onscreen keyboard. He thinks that Apple might tie the iPhone into the Apple TV as a way to control it. Luckily, Apple has already done this. As John Gruber points out, when you have Apple's Remote app on your iPhone you are able to use the iPhone to enter text into your Apple TV.Let's hope Apple stops thinking about Apple TV as a hobby and starts making an aggressive push for the living room. iPhone 3G shortage a good thing for Apple?

Section: Apple News, Retail & Apple Store, iPhone + Communications, iPhoneThe iPhone 3G is obviously in short supply, but Macworld reports that that’s not necessarily bad for Apple. Over one million iPhones were sold in the first three days. It took the original iPhone 74 days to reach one million sold. I’m sure many of you have seen the lines that are still adorning the front of Apple Stores across America. This is very different from the original launch of the iPhone, which was available days after launch. Almost all Apple Stores remain void of any iPhone 3G’s in stock, and AT&T isn’t a whole lot better. They are recommending their customers use the direct fulfillment plan, and estimate a wait of about two weeks for an iPhone 3G. According to the article, Kevin OMarah, chief strategist at AMR Research, speculates that Apple planned to have iPhone 3Gs in short supply. He goes on to express that Apple needs to “ramp up their supply” in order to make it to the self-imposed goal of 10 million iPhones sold. Apple must be confident of their supply chain, because they are releasing the iPhone 3G on schedule in 20 more countries on August 22. I personally see the shortage as Apple’s strategy to sell more iPhone 3Gs. Every day, it seems that Apple is in the news with their continued shortages and lines filled with hopeful customers waiting to get their hands on the new iPhone 3G. O’Marah goes on to say that excess is not a bad thing, just as long as iPhone 3Gs don’t exceed demand by too much. That’s the trick, isn’t it? Via Macworld.
