Final Cut Server released

After countless delays and the cancellation of Apple's booth at NAB 2008 (which starts next week), many of us assumed Final Cut Server would never materialize. However, today's store-closing Tuesday update changed all of that, and the product is out and available immediately. It's nearly a year late (it was announced at NAB 2007), but we'll take it!Apple's press release describes Final Cut Server as, "a scaleable server application...allows searching across multiple disks and SAN volumes and enables viewing, annotation and approval of content from anywhere using a PC or Mac(R)."The cross-platform nature of the client software is a huge win for production houses that are not fully Mac-ified. Even if your whole production suite is Mac, being able to login from a PC to search media clips or access media from a PC in your Final Cut workflow has great potential.Read on for the rundown of the specs and system requirements for the server and client software.Continue reading Final Cut Server releasedRead | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Get an Emmy at the Apple Store

Section: Apple News, Retail & Apple Store, Software + Apps, Video, Mac + Computers, Software Whenever I go to an Apple Store, it seems like the classes they’re having are about how to set up iCal or making photobooks in iPhoto. Little did I know you can get Emmy-winning training in Final Cut Pro! Turns out that first-time filmmaker Larry Newman won just such an award for his first directorial effort, Children’s Music Workshop: 2007 All Schools Honor Orchestra. TUAW elaborates: Newman had no previous filmmaking experience, and said that he “just purchased a high-definition camera and went to the Apple store for weekly lessons on Final Cut Pro.” The film focused on the annual concert at UCLA of 130 students who are enrolled in Newman’s Children’s Music Workshop program, and particularly on nine students in the Burbank Unified School District. The Burbank Leader newspaper also has more on the program that Newman covered in his award-winning film. Via [TUAW] Full Story » | Written by Bill Stiteler for Appletell. | Comment on this Article »

Buy a Mac, get One to One training, win an Emmy Award

In one of those improbable stories that sounds like a Hollywood script, a Burbank, CA elementary school teacher won an Emmy Award for his first attempt at filmmaking.Larry Newman (photo at right), a band director at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Burbank, won the award for a film called "Children's Music Workshop: 2007 All Schools Honor Orchestra," in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Children/Youth and Music Programming.Newman had no previous filmmaking experience, and said that he "just purchased a high-definition camera and went to the Apple store for weekly lessons on Final Cut Pro." The film focused on the annual concert at UCLA of 130 students who are enrolled in Newman's Children's Music Workshop program, and particularly on nine students in the Burbank Unified School District. Our congratulations to Mr. Newman for his Emmy, and to that unknown Apple employee who provided the Final Cut Pro lessons. Thanks to Scott for the tip!Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
